OBEDIENCE IIb: The Refined Dog with an AKC Canine Good Citizen

Option
$180 ($120 for only the group classes if you have already completed 2 on-site
sessions)

7 sessions: (Five 1-hr group sessions, 1 private session, and 1 field trip test
session)(maximum: 7 dogs)

This class is open to all dogs beginning at 8 months although to test for Pet
Therapy Certification dogs must be one year old. Training for the CGC test
provides useful obedience training, and will help you and your dog establish a
closer bond. The class does require you and your dog have had some prior
training and that your dog has had some level of reliability with Sit, Down,
Come to you, Walk on a Loose Leash & Stay. All dogs must be able to work
calmly around other dogs and people without barking or displaying any
aggressive or threatening behavior towards people and dogs.

  • This American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen prep class will be held
for 6 weeks; this includes 5 session's of CGC Test prep training (including
obedience) and then an actual test on your last day of class.
  • We will refine your dog's basic obedience skills and teach it how to be a
good companion and/or therapy dog. We will teach your dog to POLITELY
ACCEPT A STRANGER, SIT & STAY (20-ft), WALK ON A LOOSE LEASH
IN A CROWD, COME (10 ft), LEAVE-IT, POLITELY MEET OTHER DOGS
and REACT TO DISTRACTIONS (e.g. medical equipment, loud noises,
    etc.).
  • On week six we will take an "on-the-town" field trip to La Cumbre Mall
where you will have the chance to have your dog take the CGC test and
get a graduation certificate along with some celebratory treats.
  • After passing this class, you will be prepared to take the test for Therapy
Dog Certification ($10) by a Therapy Dog program so you and your dog can
visit nursing homes, schools and hospitals.
  • You will receive a private training session at your home to talk about
your dog's specific needs and/or a behavioral issue.

Admittance into the class does not guarantee your passing the CGC test. The test
is conducted by an AKC-approved CGC evaluator.
