• Pet Relief's dog trainer, Deborah McArdle, aims to enhance the
relationship between humans and dogs by offering affordable on-site Santa
Barbara dog training. By volunteering as a dog trainer at a local Santa Barbara
shelter, she also strives to improve the adoptability of rescue dogs.
• Deborah has experience training a wide variety of breeds, ranging from
Bulldogs to Brussel Griffons. One of her specialties is training and rehabilitating
rescue dogs including dominant high-energy breeds such as Pit bull terriers,
Scottish terriers, Jack Russell terriers, Cattledogs and Shepards. She employs
both traditional and contemporary techniques that are grounded on an
understanding of dog behavior and psychology.
• Deborah gained an appreciation of and experience with Pet Therapy by working
professionally at the wildlife sanctuary, Preservation and Wildlife Society, for
several years where she took both dogs and wildlife to visit hospitals, schools,
and nursing homes. She continues to actively participate as a volunteer in Santa
Barbara Pet Therapy, bringing her own dogs to hospitals and nursing homes.
• Deborah recognizes that it is important for dog owners to be able to repeat
training exercises so she strives to communicate clearly with every dog owner
and provides written handouts that outline each specific training lesson. After
any training series, Deborah makes herself readily available for any post-
training questions and will also follow up with one free post-training consultation
upon request.
• Finally, while dog training inherently involves both assertiveness and
persistence, Deborah strongly believes in making training exercises a positive
experience. During training sessions, she maintains a sense of humor and
practices patience and respect for both the dog and dog owner.
